from where acquired by the present owner 

The sitter was the great-grand-daughter of Sir William Gore (1644-1708), Lord Mayor of London between 1701 and 1702. In 1785 she married Francis Willock and their son, Sir Henry Willock (1788–1858) distinguished himself in the Madras cavalry before travelling to Persia and living for a time at the court of Tehran. We are grateful to Neil Jeffares for his help in cataloguing this lot.
