framed: 63.4 x 57.5 cm.; 25 x 22⅝ in.

This pastiche likely dates to the early twentieth century and draws primarily from Jan van Eyck’s Portrait of a man with a red turban, dated 1433, in the National Gallery, London,1 in its facial type, as well as Hans Memling’s Portrait of a man in a red hat in the Städelsches Kunstinstitut und Städtische Galerie, Frankfurt am Main,2 in the positioning of the hands and costume.
