Landscape drawings, done for their own sake, constitute a distinctive section of Guercino's drawn oeuvre. Guercino made these imaginative views, the majority executed in pen and ink, for much of his artistic career and a good number of them have survived. Although, he was extremely busy with his numerous commissions he seems to have enjoyed devoting time to these sophisticated and delicate views.
