The crest is that of Sidebotham, probably for Joseph Sidebotham J.P., F.S.A. (1824-1882) of Erlesdene, Bowden, Manchester, M.P. for Hyde from 1886. The same crest and motto appears in an heraldic stained glass window in his memory at St. Anne's Church, Haughton.
