Description

Voragine, Jacobus de

Sermones de tempore et de sanctis [Low German] Sermonen op die evangelien in dem gantzen iaer. Cologne: Johann Koelhoff, the Elder, 1482

Folio (267 x 202 mm). Gothic types, text in two columns, 38–40 lines, 2- to 5-line initial spaces supplied in red and blue, rubricated throughout. Collation: a–z8 [&]8: 190 (of 192) leaves (lacking blanks a1 and [&]8). Marginal soiling, occasional stray wormhole or short wormtrail, chiefly marginal, small hole in the lower margin of o2, about 6 leaves with tears at the lower margin, that on c1 just into text, those on o8, p2, and y4 with early repair. Contemporary blind-panelled calf over bevelled oak boards, spine extremely worn, front board detached, clasps and catches lacking.

An exceptionally rare edition of Jacobus de Voragine's sermons in Low German. In addition to the present copy—the only one in Goff—ISTC cites copies at the Staatsbibliothek, Berlin; the Universitäts- und Stadtbibliothek, Cologne; the Universitäts- und Landesbibliothek, Münster; and the Amsterdam University Library. However, the Berlin copy is lost and the Cologne copy lacks a text leaf ([&]1).
