Christopher Pratt was an apprentice to the cabinetmaker Joseph Nutter in the thriving Yorkshire manufacturing city of Bradford and took over the business upon Nutter's retirement in 1850 in partnership with Thomas Prince, who retired in 1874. The business retained the name of Pratt & Prince until 1870, after which it was known as Christopher Pratt & Sons and continued trading until c.1927 (see Christopher Gilbert, ‘Victorian and Edwardian Furniture by Pratts of Bradford’, Furniture History 1971, shorter notices).
