Sword fittings carved with openwork decoration of this sophistication are exceptionally rare. A closely comparable reticulated jade sword guard was excavated from the renowned mausoleum of the King of Nanyue in Xianggang, Guangdong Province, illustrated in Gu Fang, The Complete Collection of Jades Unearthed in China, vol. 11 Guangdong, Guangxi, Fujian, Hainan, Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, Beijing, 2005, pl. 157.
