Two Shell Snuff Boxes With Metal Mounts, Late Eighteenth Century and Later

the first, possibly English, late eighteenth century, an oliva porphyria shell box with metal mounts, the lid applied with a smaller shell panel below an engraved band,

length 3 in., 7.6 cm;

the second, of later date, a larger striated shell with plain gilt-metal mounts, with an inscription to interior to mount engraved 'stix', containing a handwritten paper note reading: Maurice / with much love / Jackie,

height 2 ½ in., 6.3 cm.
