Lot Details

Description

flattened rectangular shape with curved sides, the wavy engine-turned ground bordered by chased foliate strapwork on a sablé ground, the small thumbpiece with matching decoration, maker's mark, Paris 3eme titre and grosse garantie 1809-1819,

containing a small sea shell and a tiny handwritten heart-shaped note with date 8.11.88,

Length: 2 ¼ in., 5.4 cm.

The date on the handwritten note refers to the date of the anniversary of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis and Maurice Tempelsman, while the shell might be a nod to the place where the box was presented on the occasion of their anniversary.
