Marchese Carlo di Ottavio Gerini (1616–1673), Palazzo Gerini, Florence, by 1648, and recorded in his posthumous inventory of 1673, as ‘San Giorgio di mano di Carlino Dolci’;

Thence by descent to his son Marchese Pier Antonio Gerini (1651–1707), Palazzo Gerini, Florence;

Thence by descent to his second son Marchese Andrea Gerini (1691–1766), Palazzo Gerini, Florence, recorded in the inventory of 1733 from Via del Cocomero, as ‘un Angelo con lancia in mano’;

Thence by descent to his great-nephew Marchese Giovanni Gerini (1770–1825), Palazzo Gerini, Florence, until offered at his sale, Palazzo Gerini, Florence, 1 December 1825, lot 287 (‘S. Michele Arcangelo: mezzo busto al naturale’);

Where unsold and subsequently acquired, along with seventeen other paintings, for 870 zecchini, on 15 December 1825, by

Giovanni Rosini (1776–1855), Pisa, 1825;

Acquired in Florence, probably for a French collection, in 1827 (inscribed on a label formerly on the reverse: ‘ACHETTE A FLORENCE / EN 1827’);
