Description

2½-inch enamel dial, the clock movement with silk suspension and outside countwheel striking on a bell, the elongated octagonal plinth case with anthemion mouldings and applied with winged putto mounts, the whole surmounted by an elaborate carousel with three swan seats occupied by putti in the form of Hermes, Cupid and a jester, the cross arms carrying the relevant symbols ( a caduceus, a flaming torch and a marotte), the sides with horse head mounts supporting, on the left, a jousting ring and, on the right a wreath with ribbon inscribed Prix du Vainqueur, the automaton mechanism concealed in the base and released by the clock every hour
