Acquired in this sale.
The model for this bronze, of which we know of no other example, is an ivory group figuring Justice and Peace, dated circa 1664-65, from the collections of Cardinal Leopoldo de' Medici and now in the Gallerie degli Uffizi, Florence (26.6cm. high; inv. Bargello Avori 1879, no. 143). Leopoldo de' Medici (1617-1675) was the youngest son of Grand Duke Cosimo II and Maria Maddalena of Austria, and therefore the brother of Grand Duke Ferdinando de' Medici. The exhibition Leopoldo de' Medici. Principe dei Collezionisti, held at the Uffizi in 2018, highlighted the breadth of his collection and the quality of the works he acquired.
