This box was likely given after the incident in March of 1962 where President Kennedy had originally intended to stay at Frank Sinatra's Palm Springs home but changed plans at the last minute. Peter Lawford, who was both a member of Sinatra's Rat Pack and JFK's brother-in-law, was given the task to inform Sinatra that President Kennedy would no longer be staying at his Palm Springs home due to alleged mafia ties, and would instead stay at Crosby's. This caused the major rift between Sinatra and Lawford, leading to Lawford's banishment from the Rat Pack and the loss of his role in the film Robin and the 7 Hoods, which was then given to Crosby. After the visit, Crosby referred to the guest house where Kennedy stayed as the "Kennedy Suite".
