R. Peltason, David Webb: The Quintessential American Jeweler (New York, 2013), pp. 30-31.
Celebrated for his bold use of color and texture, David Webb’s designs captivated Hollywood’s elite in the 1960s and 1970s. Known for his remarkable attention to detail and dynamic, statement-making creations, Webb's jewelry became synonymous with luxury and glamour.
This exquisite sculpture is a perfect example of Webb’s artistry, composed or raw azurmalachite complemented by gold tendrils set with turquoise cabochons. It was originally designed in 1966 at the behest of First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy as a United States diplomatic gift that incorporated native minerals. The intricate base, made of textured gold tendrils and a rope twist border, exemplifies Webb's mastery of dimension and form.
