Description

The base with plain outer rim, the inner rim embossed with various flowers, the stem formed as a warrior in classical dress, holding in his left hand a shield with the arms of Strasbourg, and in his right a spear, the cup body with a lower band of matching floral ornament, the upper band of the cup divided into three panels representing activities from the silversmiths' guild separated by three winged masks representing the three ages of man, and with leaved garlands and birds (pelican, eagle and turkey), the cover with a further matching band of flowers, the finial modelled as a figure of a silversmith holding a hammer and keys, marked on the base with town mark and maker's mark.
