the complete set of 20 etchings, 18 with aquatint and one with drypoint, printed in black (the published edition is printed in colors), on Inveresk mould-made paper, loose (as issued), with the title, justification and colophon pages, all contained in the original beige leather-covered portfolio case

plates: 16 ¾ by 13 ½ in. (42.5 by 34.5 cm.)

sheets: 18 by 20 ⅞ in. (46 by 53 cm.)

Executed in 1976-77, this set is a unique archive proof set aside from the numbered edition of 200 plus 35 artist's proofs, published by Petersburg Press.

A similar example of this exceptionally rare cancellation proof set printed in black was gifted by the artist to the Museum of Modern Art, New York, and currently resides in their collection (object 626.1978.1-20). Five of those cancellation proofs were exhibited alongside the David Hockney Blue Guitar portfolio in colors at the museum in 1979.
