C.J. Welcker and D.J. Hensbroek-van der Poel, Hendrick Avercamp 1585–1634 bijgenaamd "de stomme van Campen" en Barent Avercamp 1612–1679 "schilders tot campen", Holland 1979, p. 331, under no. S 11.3 (as a copy).

This composition relates closely to a painting by Barent Avercamp (1612–1679), on panel and of smaller dimensions, that was in the collection of Dr G. Henle, Duisburg, by 1962.1
