Description

in blue cloth and velvet embroidered with gold thread, decorated with oak leaves; we add a piece of rope used to lower Napoleon's coffin on Saint Helena

Long. 24,5 cm, haut. de 7 à 8,5 cm ; Length 9 ¾, height from 2 ¾ to 3 3/8 in

This coat is said to have been taken by Napoleon during his exile on the island of Saint Helena and cut up by a British soldier when the Emperor was laid to rest; 

Christie's London, 1971 (bought by Mr Lazarus);

Sotheby's London, Estate of the Late Mr Allan F Lazarus, 15 May 1996, lot 262;

Expertized by Jean-Pierre Duchiron (1953-2011), expert in arms and historical souvenirs who certified this pieces in a valuation made for the current owner before 2002.
