Jaume Plensa (b. 1955, Barcelona, Spain; lives in Barcelona) is a Catalonian sculptor well known for his large-scale public artworks, such as Plensa’s remarkable interactive public art project Crown Fountain (2004) in Chicago’s Millennium Park, as well as opera sets, video projections, and acoustic installations. Portrait 3 is an elegant exploration of portraiture, with Plensa using line and shadow to evoke a quiet intimacy. Selected solo exhibitions of Plensa’s work include presentations at Musée de Valence, France; Espacio Fundación Telefónica, Madrid; Beaux-Arts Mons, Belgium; Museu Oscar Niemeyer, Curitiba, Brazil; Musée Picasso, Antibes, France; Moscow Museum of Modern Art; and Museum Beelden aan Zee, The Hague, Netherlands, among others. Plensa has two sculptures in the MCA Collection.
