Chess set

inscribed with the initials MR and numbered 6/25 (on the reverse of the red king)

thirty-two red and silver anodized aluminium chess pieces with plastic chess board

height of the king: 5.6 cm. 2¼ in.

chessboard: 34 by 34 cm. 13⅜ by 13⅜ in.

Conceived and created by Galleria Il Fauno, Turin in 1972. This work is number 6 from an edition of 25 plus 3 artist's proofs.


Andrew Strauss and Timothy Baum of the Man Ray Expertise Committee have confirmed the authenticity of this work under reference 00611-O-2025 and that the edition of this work will be included in the Catalogue of Objects & Sculpture of Man Ray, currently in preparation.
