The authorship of the present dramatic image, depicting children fleeing their village of Trảng Bàng after a napalm attack by the Republic of Vietnam Air Force, has not yet been definitively attributed. It is similar to The Terror of War, the Pulitzer Prize winning photograph by Nick Ut (Huỳnh Công Út), an Associated Press photographer. It should be noted that several other photojournalists, including Nguyễn Thành Nghệ and Hoàng Văn Doanh, also documented this dramatic event for both the Associated Press and United Press International (UPI). As the present photograph bears a UPI stamp and caption label on the reverse, Hoàng Văn Doanh is the most likely author as he was working as a freelance photojournalist for UPI at the time.
