Description

Max Planck.

Four autograph cards signed ("M. Planck"), to Hermine and Lucie Beetz

referring in 1935 to the difficult times of Nazi rule and expressing the view that they must carry on bravely, recalling her beautiful singing voice and kindnesses to him, mentioning his wife, turning down an invitation and sending her his wishes for New Year, 5 pages, 8vo, three letters on postcards and one on a correspondence card bearing Planck's hand-stamped Berlin address ("Prof. Dr. M.Planck Geh. Reg.-Rat Berlin-Grunewald Wangenheimstr. 21"), Berlin and elsewhere, 1930-1937

[with:] A signed and inscribed photographic portrait of Planck by Atelier Binz on a printed acknowledgement of congratulations received on Planck's eightieth birthday, Berlin-Grunewald, 25 May 1938

An attractive group of letters from the troubled period of the 1930s in Germany. Planck resolved out of duty to stay in Germany following the Nazis' rise to power but he was openly opposed to some of the regime's policies, notably the persecution of the Jews.
