A fine copy, bound for the French hellenist Jacques-Marie d'Amboise, professor of rhetoric and philosophy at the Collège Sainte-Barbe, and Chair of Greek and Latin Philosophy at the Collège royal.
8vo (171 x 110 mm). Italic type, 31 lines plus headline. collation: a-z8 2a8: 192 leaves. Title-page with woodcut device, marginal note in early modern hand giving alternative reading on e4r. (Small tear at lower margin of title-page).
Binding: Parisian olive morocco armorial binding (178 x 118 mm), ca 1580s, for Jacques-Marie d'Amboise, double gilt fillets around sides, in centre gilt leafy wreath containing 4 stars (the arms of Amboise), flat spine richly gilt "à feuillages", edges gilt
Provenance: Jacques-Marie d'Amboise (1538-1611), arms on binding — Charles Lenormand du Coudray (1712-1789, notable print collector), cypher in red ink on title-page.
