Second edition of the Flemish translation by Pieter Coecke van Aelst (the first was in 1539). This book was issued within a short time in Flemish, French and German translations by van Aelst, a Flemish painter, sculptor, architect, author, and polyglot.
Folio (354 x 242 mm). Gothic type. Collation: A-S4: 72 leaves. Title-page within woodcut architectural border, numerous woodcut illustrations (some double-page), woodcut on B1r annotated with ink drawing of statue captioned in manuscript "Wesse poort Tot Antwerpen", a few other woodcuts with minor annotations of dimensions. (Corners of a few pages restored, I4 with neat tissue repair, endpapers and pastedowns renewed.)
Binding: Modern binding of old vellum over boards (360 x 253 mm), plain edges. (Some staining to covers.)
