Description

Filippo Giunta produced a total of four editions of Cicero in 1515, Epistolae familiares and Orationes in addition to the present two works.


2 works in one volume, 8vo (163 x 100 mm). Italic type, 30 lines plus headline. Collation: Verrinae: a-z & [con] [rum] A8: 216 leaves. Philippicae: a-n8 o4, a2 blank: 108 leaves. Woodcut Giunta device on final verso of each work. (Occasional light foxing, first title-page almost detached.)


Binding: Contemporary Roman tooled morocco (170 x 105 mm) by Paolo de Bernardino Bancheli (active between 1503 and 1523), central six-pointed star within a frame of leafy tendrils, spine with blind fillets, edges gilt and gauffered to a knotwork design, hand watermark in lower pastedown. (Head of spine chipped, foot of spine repaired, corners rubbed, gilding on binding mostly rubbed away.)
