BIBLE. NEW TESTAMENT. GREEK. [Novum Testamentum] Αι του αγιου Παυλου επιστολαι. Αι καθολικαι επιστολαι. Αποκαλυψις του αγιου ιωαννου του θεολογου. Paris: Robert Estienne, 12 October 1549


A charming binding containing just the second part of this Estienne Greek bible.


16mo (128 x 80 mm). Greek type, 23 lines plus headline. collation: aa-zz8: 184 leaves (last two leaves blank). Woodcut Estienne basilisk device on title-page, Estienne olive tree device on final verso, woodcut initials and headpieces, ruled in red. (Without first part containing the Gospels, occasional light foxing.)


Binding: Contemporary Parisian brown morocco gilt (132 x 89 mm), by Wotton Binder C, covers with gilt fillet frame with corner fleurons, in the centre of each cover a gilt portrait bust within a wreath, on upper cover a bearded man with a laurel wreath facing right, and on lower cover a woman facing left, flat spine richly gilt, gilt edges, stubs from two pairs of ties. (Binding slightly rubbed, joints starting to crack, spine a little creased.)
