Description

Another fine binding made for the unidentified owner P.T. P.D.; for another volume of Aristotle from the same set, see previous lot. The tools used within the armorials are very slightly different on each volume.
8vo (162 x 105 mm). Roman type, 40-48 lines plus headline. collation: a-z8 &8 [con]8 [rum]8 aa-zz8 [con con]8 [run rum]8: 412 leaves (last leaf blank). Woodcut printer’s device on title-page, woodcut initials and diagrams. (Some slight browning, inscription inked out on title-page, ink stains on n4-6, r4-6 slightly torn at head.)
Binding: Contemporary Venetian chestnut morocco gilt (165 x 115 mm), central gilt armorial, outer border of interlinked circle tools with gilt fleurons at corners, upper cover with letters P.D. above armorial and P.T. below, lower cover with PHYSI., spine with blind lettering and triple blind fillets along bands, the four false bands with small diagonal gilt dashes, plain edges, stubs from two pairs of (blue?) ties. (Rebacked retaining most of original spine, corners repaired.)
