Nixon, Broxbourne Library: Styles and Designs of Bookbindings from the Twelfth to the Twentieth Century, London, Published for the Broxbourne Library by Maggs Bros., 1956, fol., "300 copies printed", laid down color-printed plates, black-and-white illustrations, prospectus laid in, occasional manuscript annotations in pencil, half vellum over blue cloth boards, plain edges, (light scuffing to boards, spots of wear at corners), ownership note of Lessing Rosenwald (1891-1979)


A finely printed illustrated catalog of bookbindings in The Broxbourne Library, illustrating the history of taste and of European bookbinding - "At first, the the bindings which principally interested us were the blind-stamped panels of the sixteen century... English 'Restoration' bindings were also an early choice, but it was later decided to include every type and style of European binding, whether aesthetically pleasing or not, up to 1800." (p. v).
