THREE POETIC WORKS PUBLISHED BY GIOLITO, BOUND TOGETHER IN A CONTEMPORARY ROMAN GIFT BINDING BY FRANZESE. The mottos on the covers translate as "God makes [happen] what may bind together [in friendship]" and "If the gift is small and well desired [it] may be requested". Amongst these works is the third Giolito edition of Terracina's Rime (the first appeared in 1548). For another Franzese binding featuring a clasped hands tool (bound for Apollonio Filareto), see A. 3 works in one volume, 12mo (125 x 78 mm). Italic type. collation: (1) A-E12; (2) A-D12 E6; (3) A-C12 D4: 60 + 54 + 40 leaves. Title-page and final leaf of each work with woodcut printer's device. (Some light spotting.)


binding: Contemporary Roman light brown morocco (129 x 81 mm), by Niccolò Franzese (or his brother Pietro), richly gilt, double gilt fillets round sides, border of egg and dart motif, large solid leafy tools above and below motto on upper cover lettered in gold "DIO FAC[C]IA | CHE STRIN|NGA", and on lower cover "SEL DONO | E POCO I BV | ON VOLER | E SVPLISCE" above and below clasped hands, spine with 3 full bands and 4 false bands, edges gilt and gauffered.
