FIRST EDITION IN AN ELEGANT CONTEMPORARY RED MOROCCO BINDING, similar to De Marinis 905 (featuring an identical cherub stamp), assigned to Rome, but possibly Venetian. The present copy contains several early modern ownership inscriptions to the endleaves, and was once part of the Library of George Dunn of Wooley Hall, near Maidenhead, sold in these rooms between 1913 and 1917.

8vo (151 x 104 mm). Roman and italic type, 28 lines plus headline. collation: *4 A-Q8: 132 leaves. Woodcut portrait to title-page, woodcut initials and genealogical diagrams. (Title-page (*1) supplied from another volume, small marginal wormhole to final 3 text leaves.)


binding: Contemporary Roman (or possibly Venetian) red morocco over pasteboards (156 x 109 mm), single gilt fillet and 2 blind fillets around sides, in centre panel a network of interlaced quadrilobes formed by a single gilt fillet, each quadrilobe containing a gilt apple at top and bottom with a small rosette between apples, at sides of quadrilobes hexagons containing a cherub, spine with 3 bands, compartments decorated by a looped and interlaced single gilt fillet, between 2 horizontal gilt fillets, traces of 2 pairs of green silk ties, edges gilt and gauffered to a ropework pattern. (Rebacked retaining original spine, upper joint starting.)
