Paride dal Pozzo, or Paris de Puteo (1410-1493), was an Italian jurist who, in his later career, wrote and published a number of legal treatises. This is a later posthumous edition of one of his most famous treatises, which set out to delineate the laws and customs of dueling.

binding: Roman binding by Niccolò Franzese (155 x 100 mm), 1540s, red morocco, multiple blind fillets around sides, gilt frame composed of 2 pairs of interlaced fillets, fleuron at outer and inner angles, in centre a roundel formed by a single gilt fillet surrounded by flame tools, inside of which “DVEL|ODERE|MILITA|RE”, in roundel on lower cover a rampant lion facing left and holding a flower, traces of 4 pairs of fabric ties, spine with 3 bands, compartments with blind saltine with gilt rosette at centre, title lettered in gold in third compartment “DVE*LLO”, edges gilt. (Minor worming to spine and upper board, old repairs to spine ends, joints starting with lower compartment of spine becoming loose.)
