A RARE TREATISE ON THE ART OF PAINTING, offering the reader theoretical insights on perspective and colour theory alongside practical advice on materials and techniques. Bisagno also shares his views on the question of imitation, which plagued artists, philosophers and commentators for centuries, proposing an adapted model.

8vo (142 x 100 mm). Roman and italic type, 25 lines plus headline. collation: ☩8 A-O8 P6 (I1 and I2 misbound after I4): 126 leaves (final leaf blank). Engraved arms of Nicolò Placido Branciforte on title-page, woodcut initials and head- and tailpieces. (Some light spotting and browning, leaf O8 loose and inserted.)


binding: Contemporary vellum over boards (149 x 111 mm), spine with 4 bands, remains of manuscript title in second compartment. (Binding slightly soiled and rubbed, small scattered wormholes to spine.)
