BEMBO, PIETRO. Delle rime di m. Pietro Bembo. Terza impressione. Rome: Valerio and Luigi Dorico for Carlo Gualteruzzi, 1548
AN EXCELLENT BLUE-PAPER COPY OF THE FIRST COMPLETE AND MOST IMPORTANT EDITION OF BEMBO'S POETRY.
This copy contains two extra leaves at the end of the volume, featuring poems by Giovanni della Casa, Angelo Colocci and others, addressed or relating to Bembo. Three of the five copies in the British Library (two of which are also blue-paper copies) have these leaves, but in one of these they are bound in a different position. There is little mention of other copies which possess these extra leaves. This copy also contains significant blank pages: R1r and V6v are blank except for pagination, and V5v and V6r are entirely blank.

binding: Italian red morocco (235 x 142 mm), c. 1800, gilt border, spine with 5 bands and 2 half bands, title in second compartment. (Some worming to spine.)
provenance: Sixteenth-century ownership inscriptions on title and first leaf. acquisition: Purchased in 1977 from Laurence Witten, Southport. references: USTC 813382 (but position of unsigned quire changed); Edit 16 CNCE 65253 (copies with the 2 extra leaves bound after Y4; compare CNCE 5030 for copies with these leaves bound after T4); Brunet I 764-5 (no mention of extra leaves)
