23.5 x 15.7 cm, 9¼ by 6⅛ in.

A print reproducing this portrait appears in L'illustration, Journal Universel no. 378, 25 May 1850, p. 324, accompanied by the caption ‘Tao Kwang, Emperor of China, after a portrait painted in watercolour on rice paper in the Chinese style, by Lam-Qua (from the collection of M. de Lagrénée)’. The illustrated periodical Musée des familles, 1 October 1849, p. 313, presents what is probably a reproduction of the Emperor's portrait, surmounted by the inscription ’Tao-Kwang, Emperador de la China ‘ (Tao Kwang, Emperor of China) and subtitled ’Tao-Kwang, Emperador de la China, conformé á un retrato auténtico hecho á la aguada en papel de arroz" (Tao-Kwang, Emperor of China, based on an authentic portrait painted in watercolour on rice paper). Finally, a possible reference to this painting can be found in the inventory of the Exhibition of samples and models brought back from China and India by trade delegates, Ministry of Agriculture and Trade, China Trade Mission, 1846, p. 67: ‘Portrait of Emperor Taou-Kwang, traced and drawn in Canton by Mr N. Rondot, based on an original portrait made during a ceremony by a friend of the honorary Tao-Taïe Pwan-tss'-chïng’.
