In the present painting, Maharana Raj Singh (r.1652-80) is richly attired, his golden jama held with a white sash in which a punch dagger is tucked, his palms held together and above his head. He is flanked by whisk, fan and sword bearers as he faces up, worshipping Surya. The sun god is depicted haloed, sitting in a cart drawn by a seven-headed horse and steered by Arun. A copy of the present painting was sold at Christie's London, 27 May 2016, lot 71.
