the double-edged curved steel blade with two fullers, a reinforced tip and traces of cross-hatching at the forte, the ebony hilt of striated ‘capital-I’ form with central ‘eye’, the wooden scabbard covered with leather moulded to resemble mounts

The carving of the wood of the hilt is unusual: the same striated style is used on the butt of a gun in the Rüstkammer in Dresden made in Bulgaria in the late eighteenth or early nineteenth century (inv. no.Y 331; Holger Schuckelt, Die Türkische Cammer, Dresden, Staatliche Kunstsammlung Dresden, 2010, pp.354-5, no.348).
