Mehmed Hilmi (d.1900-01), was originally from the city of Ermenak and was active in Istanbul in the second half of the nineteenth century. Student of the grand Sufi calligraphy master Kadiasker Mustafa Izzet Efendi, he also served in the Office of the Sheikh al-Islam and became the religious representative of the Sherif of Mecca in Istanbul. A calligraphic muraqqa' copied by Mehmed Hilmi was offered in these rooms, 24 October 2018, lot 30.
